Sliema to spore miasto (ponad 15.000 mieszkańców) jak na warunki maltańskie. Jest to centrum handlowe i rozrywkowe, położone naprzeciwko stolicy, z którą połączenie jest promem. Miasto wyrosło wokół kaplicy postawionej tu w 1855, a do końca XIX w. miasto stało się letnią siedzibą bogatych mieszkańców stolicy. Miasto zabudowane jest wiktoriańskimi kamienicami i willami właśnie z XIX w.

Sliema is a big city (over 15,000 inhabitants) as for the conditions of Malta. It is a shopping and entertainment center, located opposite the capital, there is a ferry connection. The city grew around a chapel staked here in 1855, and by the end of the XIX century the town became the summer residence of wealthy residents of the capital. The city is built with Victorian houses and villas of the XIX century.
