Serock to niewielkie miasto (ponad 4000 mieszkańców), malowniczo położone u ujścia Narwi do Zalewu Zegrzyńskiego. Istnialo już w XI w. na szlaku handlowym do Gdańska. W XII w. było to już znaczne miasto z przeprawą promową. W 1417 Serock otrzymał prawa miejskie i stanowił ważny ośrodek rzemieslniczy i handlowy. Wprawdzie w XVII w. miasto spustoszyli Szwedzi, 100 lat później była to już siedziba powiatu. W 1870, jako represje popowstaniowe, Serock utracił prawa miejskie, odzyskując je w 1923. W związku z dużą liczbą ludności żydowskiej hitlerowcy założyli tu getto dla ok. 3000 osób.  W wyniku ataków Armii Radzieckiej w 1944 miasto zostało zniszczone, odbudowano je po wojnie, choć dopiero w XXI w. Serock doprowadzono do porządku.

Serock is a small city (population 4,000), picturesquely situated at the mouth of river Narew, flowing into Zegrzyńskie Lake. It has already existed in the XI century on the trade route to Gdańsk. In the XII century, it was already a significant town with ferry crossing. Serock received town rights in 1417 and it became an important center of craft and trade. Although in the XVII century, the town was destroyed by the Swedes, 100 years later, it was the county centre. In 1870, as repression after the uprising, Serock lost its city rights, regaining it in 1923. Due to the large number of Jews the Nazis had established a ghetto for about 3,000 people. The result of attacks of the Soviet Army in 1944, the city was destroyed, rebuilt after the war, though only in the XXI century Serock was brought to order.
